Butler and Cant named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2025

Men's football defensive back Ryan Butler and women's hockey forward Avery Cant have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending October 5, 2025.

Ryan Butler, a fourth year defensive back from Mississauga, Ontario, is the Huskies male athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2025.

In Friday's 41-3 win over the Mount Allison Mounties, Butler had two interceptions and recorded 1.5 tackles.

Butler now has six interceptions on the season, leading all of U SPORTS, and tying the Saint Mary's football single-season record with two regular season games remaining. Butler's 21.0 total tackles also ranks third on the Huskies.

The Huskies will be back on the road next weekend as they visit the Bishop's Gaiters (4-1) on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. in Lennoxville, Quebec. Saint Mary's will finish the regular season on home field on Friday, Oct. 24, as they host the STFX X-Men (4-1) for Senior Night. GET TICKETS

Avery Cant / Women's Hockey / Waterloo, ON / 3rd year / Commerce

Avery Cant, a third year forward from Waterloo, ON, is the Huskies female athlete of the week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2025.

In Saturday's season-opening 5-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties, Cant scored a goal and added an assist, and recorded a game-high six shots on goal.

A 2022-23 AUS All-Rookie team selection, Cant missed much of last season with injury, but now has 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) in 46 career regular season games.

Cant and the Huskies will hit the road next weekend, visiting the St. Thomas Tommies on Friday, Oct. 10, and UNB REDS on Saturday, Oct. 11.
