Huskies defeat Tigers 4-3 in Red Tape Game
HALIFAX, NS – Saint Mary's forward Dylan Andrews scored a goal and added an assist, lifting the Huskies to a 4-3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax.
It was the second game of the Huskies annual Red Tape Hockey doubleheader, raising awareness around racism in sport in support of former SMU student Logan Prosper of We'koqma'q First Nation. Prosper was on the receiving end of a racial slur during a minor hockey game in Cape Breton (or Unama'ki) in 2019. After that, Prosper put red tape on his hockey stick as a visible reminder that such intolerance has no place in hockey and sport more broadly.
The first period saw the Huskies pepper the Tigers net with chances, but Dalhousie goaltender Carter Richardson (Dartmouth, NS), stood tall, stopping all 17 shots he faced. The Huskies outshot the Tigers 17-6 through the opening 20 minutes, but neither team scored heading into first intermission.
Just over 30 seconds into the second period, it looked like the Huskies had a go-ahead goal, as defenceman Ethan Ritchie (Oakville, ON) fired a point shot that was tipped in by forward Ben Boyd (Dartmouth, NS), but the officials waved it off for a high stick.

Four minutes later the Huskies took the lead for real, as forward Liam Arnsby (Ajax, ON) cleaned up the rebound of a Matthew MacDonald (Halifax, NS) shot, with Arnsby's first as a Husky giving SMU a 1-0 lead, 4:36 into the second period.

The Tigers got one back late in the period with Brody Fournier (Perth, ON) scoring a powerplay goal that beat a heavily screened Ben West (Barrie, ON) to cut the Huskies lead to 3-1 with 4:05 remaining in the second.
Saint Mary's outshot Dalhousie 19-3 in the second period, and took a 3-1 lead into second intermission.
Just 15 seconds into the third period, the Tigers made it interesting, as forward Zak Smith (Austin, MB) fired a spinning shot that fooled West low, and cut the lead to 3-2.
The Tigers pressed for an equalizer and both teams had good opportunities, but Richardson and West were sharp.
That is until the 12:37 mark of the third period, when Huskies forward Ben Allison (Halifax, NS) crossed the blue line, toe-dragged around a defender and fired a high shot that beat Richardson top corner, extending the Huskies lead to 4-2.
