MacDonald and Mikanovich named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Nov. 11-17, 2024

Men's hockey forward Matthew MacDonald and women's volleyball left side Emilia Mikanovich have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending November 17th, 2024.

Matthew MacDonald, a first year forward from Halifax, NS, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 11-17, 2024.

MacDonald erupted for five points (two goals and three assists) in the Huskies 8-4 win over the UPEI Panthers on Thursday, Nov. 14. He also led the Huskies with a +4 plus/minus rating, and scored a shorthanded goal.

On the season, MacDonald has scored six points (three goals and three assists) in 12 games played. The Huskies win improved their record to 7-5-1-0 on the season, good for third place in the AUS. 

Emilia Mikanovich / Women's Volleyball / Minsk, Belarus / 3rd year / Biology

Emilia Mikanovich, a third year left side from Minsk, Belarus, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 11-17, 2024.

Mikanovich led the Huskies attack in a pair of wins over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, averaging 16.5 points, 15 kills, and 12 digs across a pair of matches.

In Friday's 3-1 win over the Sea-Hawks, Mikanovich led the Huskies with a match-high 17 kills, adding eight digs and an assist.

In Saturday's 3-1 win over the Sea-Hawks, Mikanovich was named Player of the Match, leading the Huskies with 13 kills, 16 digs, two service aces, two block assists and one assist.

Through eight matches, Mikanovich is among the AUS leaders in points per set (3.7 - 2nd), kills per set (3.23 - 2nd), total kills (100 - 3rd), total points (115.5 - 3rd), digs (106 - 6th) and digs per set (3.42 - 7th).

The Huskies stand at 6-2 on the season, and will be back on home court on Nov. 29 as they host the Dalhousie Tigers.
