Huskies keep point streak alive with 2-1 win over REDS

FREDERICTON, N.B. - The Saint Mary's Huskies recorded a point for their sixth straight game, beating the UNB REDS 2-1 in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey on Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the visitors opened the scoring at the 9:11 mark of the second on a goal by Kara MacLean.

AUS scoring leader Katelyn Scott tied it for UNB with her eighth goal and 26th point of the season, a powerplay goal early in the third.

Jillian Duggan's goal at 9:42 of the third was the winner for Saint Mary's.

Sophie Scully earned the win in the Huskies net, making 19 saves on 20 shots to earn first star honours.

Taya Christie took the loss, making 16 saves on 18 shots.

The loss was the first of the season for Christie, a first-year RED, after five wins.

UNB remains second in the AUS standings with a 19-5-1-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record.

The Huskies have won five of their last six games - with the lone defeat being a shootout loss- improving their record to 13-9-0-4, good for fifth place in the AUS standings.

Up next for both teams, the final games of the 2025-26 regular season. UNB hosts the Dalhousie Tigers (8-13-4-2) on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., while the Huskies visit the St. Thomas Tommies (17-8-0-2), also at 3 p.m. in Fredericton.
