Frances MacLeod named to U SPORTS All-Rookie team after 17th place finish at Nationals

A pair of Saint Mary's Huskies cross country athletes - Frances MacLeod and Elijah Ford - competed at the 2025 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8, hosted by the Université de Sherbrooke, in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

In the women's race, Huskies first year standout Frances MacLeod kept the ball rolling with a successful wrap-up to her rookie season. Navigating a muddy and technical course, MacLeod finished 17th out of a large field of 174 athletes, in a time of 29:07 over the 8km distance. With her 17th place finish, Frances was the third first-year athlete to cross the finish line and was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie team.

Afterwards, in the men's race, fifth-year captain Elijah Ford represented the Huskies one last time on a cross country course. Eli put forth a hard effort on the hilly terrain, finishing 145th in a time of 27:53. Eli's leadership has been paramount in the culture of the team, providing his young teammates with an environment they can grow and succeed in. Thank you, Eli, for all you've done in maroon and white.

The coaching staff would like to congratulate the athletes on their seasons and are looking forward to building on the success in seasons to come.
