Huskies women’s soccer announce commitment of midfielder Maya Stoppa

Saint Mary's Huskies women's soccer head coach Marisa Colzie is pleased to announce the commitment of midfielder Maya Stoppa for the 2026 season.

A 5'4" attacking / holding midfielder, Stoppa joins the Huskies as a transfer from the STFX X-Women. It's a return to Saint Mary's for Maya, as she played her first season of university soccer with the Huskies in 2022.

"Committing to Saint Mary's feels like a full-circle moment for me," says Maya. "It's where my university journey started, and now it's where I get to finish it, which makes this opportunity really special. I've always loved being part of this program and the culture around the team, so I'm incredibly excited to be back. I'm looking forward to competing, growing as a player, and contributing to the team's success in my final chapter here."

Over the past two seasons with STFX, Stoppa has appeared in 14 games, starting one, and was a member of the 2023 AUS Championship winning team.

Stoppa plans on playing this upcoming summer with the West Ottawa Soccer Club in the LSPro level, competing in Ligue 3 Québec (L3)

Prior to her university career, Stoppa graduated from Nepean High School, and played four seasons with Ottawa South United in the Ontario Player Development League from U14-U17, winning the OPDL Coaches Award in 2018 and 2019. She was also a member of the Ontario Soccer Provincial Projects from U13-U16.

Stoppa is described as a hardworking and versatile midfielder known for a strong work ethic, leadership, and positive attitude on and off the field. She hopes to bring a veteran presence and championship winning pedigree back to the Huskies.

Stoppa has been on the Dean's List all four years of university, and graduated the STFX Bachelor of Business Administration program with the highest average in the Marketing program. She will be studying a Masters in Data Analytics at Saint Mary's, and has two years of eligiblity remaining.

The Huskies will kick-off the 2026 season on home field as they host the UNB REDS on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.
