HALIFAX, NS - Acadia midfielder Rachel Kibble scored a pair of goals, leading the Axewomen to a 2-0 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies to finish off the Atlantic University Sport women's soccer regular season on Saturday at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, NS.
It was Senior Night for the Huskies as they honoured 13 graduating student-athletes with a pregame ceremony. #1 Katie Alley, #2 Virginia Boone, #4 Madison Ganong, #5 Cassidy Wells, #8 Brooke Donovan, #10 Claire Sauze, #11 Julia Pasma, #14 Alexa Ikejiani, #15 Lindy Brunelle, #18 Alexandra Campbell, #22 Charlottee Baines, #23 Lauren Hurst, #27 Neila MacDonald and #31 Emma Bristow were all recognized for their years of commitment and dedication to the Saint Mary's women's soccer program.
The first half saw the Axewomen outchance the Huskies 11-5, but Saint Mary's senior keeper Katie Alley made three saves, and the two teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, the Axewomen broke through, as defender Emily Clark3 sent a long ball up field that made its way to Rachel Kibble on the right wing, who fired a high shot that arced over a leaping Katie Alley and sailed into goal to make it 1-0 Axewomen in the 56th minute.
Kibble was able to double the visitors lead just three minutes later, as midfielder Taylor Kay played a pass through the middle, and Kibble beat the Huskies defender to the ball and fired a shot past Alley to put Acadia ahead 2-0 in the 59th minute.
Saint Mary's pushed to cut into the Axewomen lead but were unable to do so, and the final whistle blew on the Acadia 2-0 victory.
With the win Acadia finishes the regular season with a 6-4-2 record, good for fifth place in the AUS, and advance to the quaterfinal where they will take on the #4 seed Memorial Sea-Hawks (7-3-2) on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at Ness Timmons Field in Sydney, N.S.
The Huskies finish the season with a 4-6-2 record, and narrowly miss out on the AUS playoffs by a single point. Huskies women's soccer thanks you for your support this season, and can't wait to see you back in the stands in 2026!
