Belliveau’s big day lifts Aigles Bleues to 4-2 win over Huskies
HALIFAX, NS – Aigles Bleues midfielder Madeleine Belliveau scored two goals and added two assists, leading Moncton to a 4-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, NS.
It was the Huskies who generated early chances, with several long shots from winger Áine O'Neil (New Ross, NS) either being denied by Aigles Bleues goalkeeper Krista Phillips (Dalhousie, NB), or narrowly missing the target.

Saint Mary's midfielder Charlotte Baines (Halifax, NS) also chipped in offensively, charging the net for several chances but wasn't able to capitalize. It was a chippy first half, with several injury stoppages, and Baines being given a yellow card. But neither team was able to score and the two teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Moncton came out in the second half and quickly flipped the script, pushing their attack forward and putting pressure on the Huskies backline. That nearly paid off when a shot from midfielder Madeleine Belliveau (Dieppe, NB) went off the crossbar in the 50th minute.
But less than five minutes later the Aigles Bleues were able to break through, as Belliveau played a well-timed ball to midfield Jessie Landry (Shediac Cape, NB), who dribbled 15 yards forward and launched a high shot that curled in under the crossbar, beating Huskies goalkeeper Tatyana Olsen (Winnipeg, MB) to open the scoring in the 55th minute.
Less than two minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead, as Belliveau received a through-ball from forward Lalou Dilhac (Dieppe, NB) and fired a high shot that went into goal to put Moncton ahead 2-0 in the 57th minute.
Saint Mary's pushed for a counter-attack and was able to get one back in the 59th minute, as a well delivered corner kick from Virginia Boone (Halifax, NS) was headed into goal by forward Jamie-Lynn Provo (Dartmouth, NS), with her first goal as a Husky cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Huskies pushed for an equalizer, with back-to-back near misses from forward Cara Freeman (Halifax, NS), who had a long free kick cleared out of the box by the defender, and then hit the post on a chance off of a corner kick.

The Aigles Bleues second half offensive explosion kept going, with Belliveau feeding Dilhac for their third goal of the match in the 75th minute, before Belliveau added her second goal and fourth point of the day in the 83rd minute.
Saint Mary's never gave up, and cut into the lead in the 87th minute, as substitute Emma Bristow (Surrey, BC) played a ball over the top to Cara Freeman, who fired a shot that initially looked to be stopped by Phillips, but trickled over the goal line to cut the lead to 4-2, with Freeman's 11th goal and AUS leading 15th point of the campaign.
