Freeman leads Huskies to 2-0 win over Panthers

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI - Saint Mary's forward Cara Freeman scored a goal and an assist in the Huskies 2-0 win over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action on Friday night in Charlottetown, PEI.

The Huskies opened the scoring in the 25th minute, off a nice end-to-end build up, with forward Cara Freeman (Halifax, NS) playing a great final pass to the speedy Virginia Boone (Halifax, NS) who made no mistake to put Saint Mary's ahead 1-0.

Saint Mary's doubled their lead in the 43rd minute when forward Lindy Brunelle (Keswick, ON) played a nifty back-heel to Freeman, who's intiial shot was blocked, but Boone picked up deflection and played it back to Freeman who deposited a shot into the bottom left corner to put the Huskies ahead 2-0.

Cara Freeman was named Player of the Match with a goal and an assist - she now leads the AUS with 11 points, and ranks second with eight goals scored. Tatyana Olsen stopped all four shots she faced for the clean sheet, while Panthers keeper Claudia Mazzei made two saves in defeat.
