Panthers defeat Huskies 43-12 in Halifax
HALIFAX, NS – The UPEI Panthers defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 43-12 in Atlantic University Sport women's rugby action on Saturday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Halifax.
The two teams exchanged drives down the field to begin the match – Huskies #9 Katherine Fairbrother (Saint John, NS) had a long run down field, but was stopped by the Panthers defence. The Huskies came up with a big goal line stand next, denying the Panthers on the try line.
The Panthers hit the scoreboard first, as #9 Lauren Misener (Brackley, PEI) plunged into the end zone in the 17th minute, and made her own conversion, giving the visitors an early 7-0 lead. The Panthers quickly struck again, with a try from #2 Adrianna Platis (Shediac Cape, NB), with another Misener conversion making it 14-0.
Saint Mary's responded promptly, with #15 Isabel Goncalves (Wellington, NS) receiving a goal-line drop kick and returning it 30 yards for the Huskies first try of the match, cutting the Panthers lead to 14-5.
