St. Peter scores 3OT winner as Panthers advance to semifinal with 3-2 win over Huskies
HALIFAX, N.S. – UPEI forward Kierra St. Peter scored the game-winning goal, 1:12 into triple overtime, leading the Panthers to a series winning 3-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in game two of the best-of-three Atlantic University Sport women's hockey quarterfinal series on Friday night at the Dauphinee Centre.
The first period saw tightly contested play, with the Huskies outshooting the Panthers 11-7. The best scoring chance of the period came when Saint Mary's forward Renee Olsen (Yarmouth, NS) connected with a driving Mackenzie Beggs (Kemptville, ON) but Beggs' shot ricocheted off the crossbar, and the two teams headed into first intermission with a scoreless tie.
The second period saw more great goaltending from Huskies netminder Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) and Panthers counterpart Erin Cabaday (Oakville, ON).

That is until, with the Panthers on the powerplay, Huskies forward Keyara Nelson (Oakville, ON) was able to spark linemate Jillian Duggan (Halifax, NS) on a breakaway, with Duggan deking to her backhand and finishing gracefully for a shorthand goal, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead, 14:55 into the second period.

With just over two minutes remaining in the period, the Panthers equalized with forward Savannah Hicks (Brampton, ON) intercepted a pass in the Huskies end and stuffed a shot past Hansen to tie the game at 1-1, 17:59 into the second period.
But the Huskies regained the lead just 30 seconds later, with forward Gillian Lapierre (Port Coquitlam, BC) stealing a puck in the neutral zone and breaking out on a two-on-one with Jillian Duggan, with Duggan's initial shot being saved by Cabaday, but Lapierre followed up the rebound for her first goal of the series, putting the home team ahead 2-1, 18:26 into the second.

The Huskies and Panthers each registered seven shots in the second period, and Saint Mary's took a 2-1 lead into second intermission.
UPEI was able to tie it up again just over five minutes remaining in the third, with a powerplay goal from captain Chloe McCabe (Charlottetown, PEI) tying it at 2-2, 14:23 into the third.
Both teams had quality scoring chances over the last five minutes, but neither team was able to capitalize and score a winning goal, and the two teams headed into playoff overtime.
Overtime was another tight, defensive battle. The Huskies had a quality chance with forward Mia Faseruk (Winnipeg, MB) looking to capitalize on an awkward bounce of the back-boards, but collided with Cabaday and the puck stayed out.
With just under two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, the Huskies were called for a powerplay, but were able to kill of the first 1:47 thanks to some timely saves from Hansen, and the two teams headed into the second overtime period.
The Huskies nearly won it eight minutes into the second OT, but forward Avery Cant (Waterloo, ON) rang a shot off the crossbar, and the teams remained tied through 100 minutes of action, forcing triple overtime.
Just over a minute into the third overtime period, defender Jessica Mercer (Bay Roberts, NL) fired a shot through a crowd that was stopped by Hansen, but the rebound bounced right onto the stick of forward Kierra St. Peter (Craigs Flat, NB), who made no mistake, giving the Panthers the 3-2 OT win after 101:12 of action.
Saint Mary's outshot the Panthers 39-30 on the night, but Panthers netminder Erin Cabaday was outstanding, turning away 37 shots and being named Boston Pizza Player of the Game, while Ridleigh Hansen made 27 saves in defeat.
With the win, the Panthers advance to the AUS Semifinal, where they will take on the #1 seed STFX X-Women, while the Huskies season comes to a close. Thanks to all Huskies players, coaches, staff and fans for a tremendous 2025-26 season, we can't wait to see you back in the Dauphinee Centre in fall 2026!
