Cant scores twice as Huskies defeat Aigles Bleues 4-0
MONCTON, NB – Saint Mary's forward Avery Cant scored two goals, leading the Huskies to a 4-0 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleues in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Sunday afternoon at J. Louis Levesque Arena in Moncton, NB.
The Huskies opened the scoring midway through the first period, as forward Ashley Penney intercepted a pass in the Aigles Bleues zone and played a quick pass over to defender Anna Barrington, who snapped a shot past Aigles Bleues goaltender Annick Boudreau to put the visitors up 1-0, 10:44 into the first period.

Midway through the second period, Player of the Game Avery Cant took over, scoring back-to-back powerplay goals. Off a Cant rebound, defender Abigail MacKenzie cycled the puck back to Cant, who walked in and lifted a high shot bar-down, doubling the lead to 2-0, 9:09 into the second period.

Just over two minutes later, the Huskies were back on the powerplay when Cant struck again, this time off an assist from forward Kara MacLean, extending the lead to 3-0, 11:51 into the second period.

Huskies forward Charlotte Buffie secured the 4-0 lead in the third period, taking the puck from her own zone and faking a pass on the two-on-one before scoring on a wrist shot, 7:47 into the third period.

Huskies goaltender Sophie Scully stopped 18 shots for the shutout, while Aigles Bleues netminder Annick Boudreau turned away 15 shots in defeat.
The Huskies win snaps a three-game losing skid and improves their record to 4-4-0-1 on the season. Saint Mary's road swing will continue next weekend, as they visit the Mount Allison Mounties (0-10-0-0) on Friday, Nov. 7, and STFX X-Women (6-3-0-0) on Saturday, Nov. 8, with both games scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The Aigles Bleues drop to 5-3-1-0 on the season. They'll be back on home ice on Friday, Nov. 7, hosting the St. Thomas Tommies (5-4-0-1) at 7 p.m.
