With under ten seconds remaining in the period, Mounties forward Dallis MacKenzie drew defenders and dropped a beautiful through the legs pass to teammate Chelsea Krahenbil (Winnipeg, MB) who tapped it into the net to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Huskies outshot the Mounties 12-4 in the first period, with the Huskies taking a 3-2 lead into intermission.

Halfway through the period, Huskies forward Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) had an opportunity on a short breakaway, tried to deke Mounties netminder, but McDonald made a sprawling pad save.

With eight minutes left to play in the second period, the Huskies headed onto the powerplay. With one second left on the powerplay, Huskies Anna Barrington (St. John's, NL) shot from the point was deflected by Jillian Duggan (Halifax, NS) into the back of the net to make it 5-2.
