Pegg wins F46 gold, as Huskies compete at U SPORTS Nationals in Winnipeg

The Huskies were represented by three athletes at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships, hosted March 5-7 in Winnipeg by the University of Manitoba.

Katie Pegg donned the maroon and white one last time as she threw her last throw wearing a Huskies singlet. She threw 11.83m, claiming the gold medal in the Women's F46 Shot Put. Pegg has seen a rise to stardom while at Saint Mary's, going from humble beginnings in her first year, to representing SMU on the national stage, and Canada on the international stage, culminating with the Paris Paralympics in 2024 and winning a bronze medal at the 2025 World Para Championships.

Pegg now continues her journey to the opposite coast as she will move to Victoria, B.C. after the school year and live and train full-time at Athletics Canada West Hub, along with throws coach, Jodi Langley, who begins her new coaching career with Athletics Canada. Langley has also been instrumental in creating a throws culture at SMU that has broken all school records in throws events during her tenure. We thank both Katie and Jodi for their efforts and dedication to the Huskies Track & Field program, and wish them all the best in their next chapter!

Mason Dunlop and Ciaran MacDonald both represented the Huskies in their individual events. Dunlop would finish 11th in the Men's Shot Put, with a best throw of 13.86m, and MacDonald would finish 12th in the Men's Triple Jump, with a best jump of 13.18m. Both were competing in their third and second U Sports Championships, respectively. Both had solid seasons, with Dunlop being ranked 10th in U Sports in the Shot Put during the regular season, and MacDonald winning gold at the AUS Championships.
