Huskies track & field finish AUS Championship with 10 medals; Ford wins Student-Athlete Community Service Award

The 2026 AUS Track & Field Championships drew to a close Saturday as the SMU Huskies ended their championships with one major award winner, 10 medals (one gold, two silver, seven bronze), three school records, and three athletes heading to the U SPORTS Championship in two weeks.

Day two was highlighted both on and off the track. Second year athlete, Ciaran MacDonald, reclaimed his AUS Champion title as he won the Men's Triple Jump with a personal best jump of 13.36m. This qualifies MacDonald for his second U SPORTS Championships as he heads to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg to represent the maroon and white.

Off the track, the Huskies had a major award winner with 5th year athlete and Men's team captain, Elijah Ford, being named the AUS Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner. Ford has been an instrumental part of the Huskies success, both in competition and off. He has co-led the Run for Alzheimer's event at SMU, coordinated team Christmas Toy Drives for the IWK, and is a volunteer board member with the Greater Shediac Sailing School.

In the Men's 60m final, the Huskies were represented by three athletes. In a close finish, and one of the fastest 60m finals in the AUS, Chandler Zinck-Marier (6.95) and Chad Smith (7.00) took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The Huskies continued their run of medals on the second day with the Men's 4x400m relay (composed of Noah Skeete, Liam Foley, Oliver Gavel, and Elijah Ford) securing the bronze medal in a time of 3:33.09.

In the field, Mason Dunlop broke his own school record in the Men's Weight Throw, throwing a massive personal best of 15.58m, and going on to finish 4th in the event, narrowly missing the podium.

The Men's team would go on to finish 3rd overall in the team standings with a score of 60 points, and the Women's team 7th overall in the team standings with a score of 12 points.

The Huskies will now be represented at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships in Winnipeg from March 5-7 by Ciaran MacDonald (Triple Jump), Mason Dunlop (Shot Put), and Katie Pegg (Shot Put).
