Huskies win six medals, break two school records on Day One of AUS Track & Field Championships
Day 1 of the AUS Track & Field Championships brought the Huskies six medals, along with two school records broken, and a U SPORTS top 12 performance.
The championships started with a bang for the Huskies with Katie Pegg breaking a 43-year-old school record in the Women's Shot Put with a throw of 12.78m, winning the bronze medal in the event. This currently ranks Pegg 13th in U SPORTS at the event.
Continuing the throws highlights, Mason Dunlop threw an 80cm season best of 15.55m in the Men's Shot Put, winning him the silver medal, and currently ranking him 9th in U SPORTS. Pending the results from the other conference championships, a top 12 ranking would send Dunlop to the U SPORTS Championships in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba.
In the Women's Triple Jump, rookie Elisha Delphin broke her own school record, breaking the eleven metre barrier with a jump of 11.11m. Delphin finished 4th overall in the event, scoring points for the Women's team.
The jumps results were not done there as Ciaran MacDonald repeated his dependability in crunch time, leaving his best jump for the 6th and final attempt – jumping a personal best of 6.30m -- and winning a bronze medal in the process.
On the track, rookie Noah Skeete raced to a bronze medal in the Men's 300m with a time of 36.64. Skeete came in ranked 8th and greatly improved upon his ranking to grab the first of his two bronze medals of the day. He was also a part of the Men's 4x200m relay team, along with Ethan Delphin, Chandler Zinck-Marier, and Oliver Gavel, as the men would go on to win the bronze medal in a time of 1:33.83. The relay medals were not done there, as the Men's 4x800m relay team – composed of Zack Kennedy, Zack Rogers, Liam Foley, and Elijah Ford – won the bronze medal in a time of 8:10.24.
Day 2 gets underway at 9:00 am at l'Université de Moncton.
