Huskies win seven events, set two school records and many personal bests at NB Invitational meet
SAINT JOHN, NB - The Saint Mary's Huskies track & field team continued to show progress, winning seven events, setting two school records and numerous personal bests at this weekend's New Brunswick Indoor Championship and University Invitational in Saint John, NB.
Day one of competition saw a strong start with the multi-athletes as Raeden Black and Brianna Lawton put in five full events each in the pentathlon. Lawton saw personal bests in four of her five events in the hurdles (10.72), high jump (1.36m), shot put (7.70m), and 800m (2:54) and a new personal best total pentathlon score of 2256. Black achieved personal bests in the 800m (2:33) as well as her total score of 2778, finishing third overall. Eric Wall completed the first four events of his heptathlon currently sitting in first place with a total score of 2268. Wall will complete the remaining three events on day two tomorrow.
Other personal bests on the day included Brady Kyle in the 3000m in a time of 9:14, Mackenzie Hayduk in the 3000m in a time of 11:19, and Ciaran MacDonald in the triple jumping with a distance of 12.43m.
A few crowning jewels of the first day were Mason Dunlop winning the men's shot put with a throw of 14.90m. Amelia Jardine smashed the school record in weight throw with a distance of 11.01m. The men's 4x200m relay team displayed a dominant performance winning the event as well as taking down the school record in a time of 1:31.00.
The Huskies continued their strong performances on day two of competition seeing a large range of athletes achieving personal bests.
Personal bests of the day included; Mason Dunlop in the shot put, throwing 15.30m, various in the mile including; Oliver Hubka (5:00), Alex Labrecque (5:05), Cole Miller (4:43), Matthew Mundy (4:48), Brady Kyle (4:35) and Mackenzie Hayduk (5:31). The personal bests continued with Liam Foley in the 600m running 1:28, Keegan Hall in the 600m running 1:26 and in the 300m running 37.76, Marcienne Theriault in the 600m running 1:53, Oliver Gavel in the 600m running 1:24, Eli Ford in the 600m running 1:24, Katie Pegg in the shot put throwing 11.47m, Fergus Porter in the weight throw launching 12.06m, Jonathon Vanwart in the weight throw launching 11.81m, Sidaunte Smith in the 300m running 45.85, Dante Isadore in the 300m running 37.45, and Zack Kennedy in the 1000m running 2:40. Eric Wall completing the last three events of the heptathlon achieved personal bests in the 60m hurdles running 10.18, the pole vault clearing 2.40m, the 1000m running 3:17, and his total heptathlon score achieving 3500 points.
A few crowning achievements from the second day include Dante Isadore winning the long jump, Andy MacMullin winning the 300m, Mason Dunlop winning the shot put, and Eric Wall winning the heptathlon.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday, February 8th, as they host the Saint Mary's Open, being held at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax.
