Huskies season ends with 5-2 loss to Axemen

HALIFAX, NS - Acadia forward Toni Adeoye scored a hat-trick, leading the Axemen to a 5-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies to finish off the Atlantic University Sport men's soccer regular season on Saturday at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, NS.

It was Senior Night for the Huskies as they honoured a pair of graduating student-athletes - #7 Colby Mercer & #20 Jalen Loague - with a pregame ceremony.

It was the Huskies who got off to a quick start, with forward Will Brown (Halifax, NS) taking a pass from Colby Mercer (Beaverbank, NS) and firing a low shot past Axemen goalkeeper Connor Burns, giving Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into play.

But the Axemen responded quickly, thanks to a goal from winger Blaise Mellema in the fifth minute.

The score remained tied at one until added time of the first half, when Toni Adeoye scored for the Axemen to give them a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

Adeoye was just getting started, as 18 minutes into the second half he added to the lead with his second goal of the match.

That started an Axemen scoring explosion, as AJ Magamura scored three minutes later to make it 4-1, and two minutes after that Adeoye scored his hat-trick goal to extend the visitors lead to 5-1 in the 69th minute.

The Huskies got a late goal back, with Will Brown scoring his second of the night to bring the final score to 5-2 in favour of the Axemen.

That concludes the season for both the Axemen (4-5-3) and Huskies (3-9-0) who each narrowly miss out on a playoff berth. Huskies men's soccer thanks you for your support this season, and can't wait to see you back in the stands in 2026!
