HALIFAX, NS – The Moncton Aigles Bleus defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, NS.
It was a chippy match with nine yellow cards and 31 fouls dolled out between the two teams.
Moncton opened the scoring in the 30th minute, as a corner kick from midfielder Alex Kazandjian (Kirkland, QC) ricocheted around the box before being directed in by defender Dave Guichard (Remire Montjoly, Guiana) to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Saint Mary's goalkeeper Logan Briand (Halifax, NS) made several quality saves to keep the Huskies within one, and the Aigles Bleus took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Huskies had their best chance of the match off a free-kick from Jake Wilcox that looked to have beaten Aigles Bleus keeper Soan Janssen (Moncton, NB) but curled just wide.
Moncton doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, as forward Soumalia Mohamed Dagnoko (Gatineau, QC) played a pass ahead to forward Mael Lavail (Sallanches, France) who deposited a looping shot over a sliding Briand to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Aigles Bleus added another goal to their tally in the 83rd minute, as Dagnoko played a ball over to substitute Patcha Macias (Moncton, NB), who caught Briand out of position to extend the Moncton lead to 3-0.
Moncton forward Soumalia Mohamed Dagnoko was named Player of the Match with two assists.
Moncton's win improves their record to 6-3-1 on the season. They'll be back on home turf on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18, hosting the UNB REDS (6-3-1) and Dalhousie Tigers (6-2-1) to finish off the regular season, with both games scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
