HALIFAX, NS - Memorial defender Hashem Khalifa scored two goals, as the Sea-Hawks defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, N.S.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw through the first 45 minutes, thanks in part to stellar goalkeeping from first year keepers Huskies Logan Briand (Halifax, NS) and Sea-Hawks Ben Collingwood (St. John's, NL).
But the momentum turned in the 64th minute, as the Huskies committed a foul inside the box, giving the Sea-Hawks a penalty kick, and captain Hashem Khalifa (St. John's, NL) calmly stepped to the spot and beat Briand to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Khalifa added to the Sea-Hawks lead just eight minutes later, scoring off of a corner kick. In the 78th minute, forward Eamon Carew (St. John's, NL) made it 3-0 Memorial, which would be the final score.
Khalifa was named Player of the Game with two goals. Sea-Hawks keeper Ben Collingwood made on save for the clean sheet, while Huskies keeper Logan Briand made four saves in defeat.
The Sea-Hawks win improves their record to 1-0-1, heading into next weekends matchup against the UPEI Panthers (1-1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 3:30 p.m. NST.
The Huskies loss drops their record to 1-1-0, heading into a matchup against the STFX X-Men (0-1-1) on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. AST at Huskies Stadium. GET TICKETS
