Aigles Bleus defeat Huskies 9-2 in game one of semifinal

MONCTON, NB - The Moncton Aigles Bleus defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 9-2 in game one of the best-of-five Atlantic University Sport men's hockey semifinal on Friday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in front of 1,200 spectators.

The two teams will meet for game two on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Moncton campus. Moncton led 40 (19-14-7) to 31 (7-10-14) in shots on goal and held a 12-0 advantage midway through the first period. The Aigles Bleus were leading 2-0 and 7-0 after the first two periods.

Jeremy Michel showed his skills with 2 goals and an assist to lead the offence for his team. Jérémie Jacob had a goal with 5 shots and Jeremy Lapointe, 1 goal and an assist and 3 shots. Olivier-Luc Haché got the ball rolling for the home with the first goal at 1:07 of the first period. Charles Édouard Drouin made it 2-0. The Jérémys then scored their four goals and Antoine Roy his first of his university career in the playoffs to complete the second period.

The Huskies scored their first early in the third to bring them to life. Jonathan Desrosiers, with his first university career in the playoffs, and Edouard St-Laurent also found the target for Moncton in the third. Charles De fonseca scored the last of the game and the visitors 2^nd on the power play near the end of the game.

Nathan Darveau was the winner in net and Justin Sumarah (30 minutes and 5 goals) and Ben West shared the goaltending duties in the loss. The game was long with several double penalties throughout the game. Saint Mary's and Moncton were 1-for-6 on the power play.

Games 3 and 4 (if necessary) will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week in Halifax. GET TICKETS
