Jayrell Diggs shoots his way into AUS history, breaks three-point record

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A record that stood for 26 years is no more.

Saint Mary's guard Jayrell Diggs became the new AUS all-time leader in career three-pointers made on Saturday night, surpassing the longstanding mark of 220 set in 2000 by former UPEI standout and current Utah Jazz assistant coach Scott Morrison.

Diggs broke the record in his 90th career AUS game—nine fewer than the 99 games Morrison played when he established the previous mark—doing so in the second-last game of his five-year career with the Huskies. The milestone came on the road against the Memorial Sea-Hawks in St. John's.

Needing three triples to match the record entering the night, Diggs connected four times from beyond the arc, finishing the game with 14 points, three rebounds and one assist. His fourth three-pointer of the contest moved him into sole possession of first place in the conference record book.

Diggs now sits at 221 career three-pointers made, establishing a new AUS standard with one regular season game remaining.

The Huskies fell 89-83 to the Sea-Hawks in Saturday's contest. The two teams will meet again Sunday at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale, giving Diggs one more opportunity to add to his newly established mark in the final game of his AUS career.
