Four Huskies - Butler, Edwards, Hashw, Jack - invited to CFL Combines

Four Saint Mary's Huskies football players - defensive backs Ryan Butler and Kallon Edwards, offensive lineman Omar Hashw and receiver Joshua Jack - have been selected to attend upcoming 2026 CFL Combines.

Ryan Butler, Kallon Edwards and Omar Hashw have accepted invitations to the CFL Invitational Combine, Presented by New Era, taking place March 6 at the University of Waterloo. The top prospects identified at the event will advance to Edmonton for the CFL Combine presented by Anytime Fitness from March 27-29.

Joshua Jack has accepted an invitation directly to the CFL National Combine that will be held in Edmonton from March 27-29.

"We're very happy to see Ryan, Kallon, Omar and Joshua selected to participate in this year's CFL Combines," says Huskies head coach Steve Sumarah. "All four players have been leaders in our program, and are being rewarded for the commitment they have shown to training to take their game to the highest levels possible."

Ryan Butler, a fourth year defensive back from Mississauga, ON, was named a 2025 U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian and AUS All-Star at free safety. A Huskies team captain, Butler had an outstanding season in his return after missing the entire 2024 season due to injury. Butler appeared in all eight regular season games, and led all of U SPORTS with six interceptions, which he returned for 74 yards. Butler also recorded 24.5 tackles (ranking fourth on the Huskies) in the regular season, and added 10.5 tackles and one pass break-up in three playoff games. Butler participated in the 2024 U SPORTS East-West Bowl.

Kallon Edwards, a fourth year defensive back from Toronto, ON, was named an 2025 AUS All-Star at halfback. In eight regular season games this season, Edwards recorded 26.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions, adding 16.5 tackles, one fumble recovery and one interception over three playoff games.

Omar Hashw, a fifth year offensive lineman from Wölfnitz, Austria, has appeared in 33 regular season and playoff games over five seasons with the Huskies bringing size and physicality to their offensive line.

Joshua Jack, a fourth year receiver from Brampton, ON, participated in the 2025 U SPORTS East-West Bowl. In eight regular season games this season, Jack was tied for the Huskies team lead with 28 receptions, for 433 yards and two touchdowns. In two playoff games, Jack added seven receptions for 167 yards. Over four seasons with the Huskies, Jack has recorded 50 receptions for 935 yards and three touchdowns, adding 546 kick return yards and one touchdown on 24 kick returns, and 223 punt return yards yards on 22 punt returns.

Huskies football has become a hotbed of CFL prospects over the past few seasons. In 2024, a pair of Huskies - linebacker Isaiah Okoli and receiver Liam Stewart - were invited to the CFL Combine.

In 2023, four Huskies were invited to participate in the CFL National Combine - tight end Sebastian Howard, linebacker Markcus Jean-Loescher, defensive end Aidan John and defensive back Jassin States-McClean - with all four players going on to be selected in the CFL Draft, as well as former receiver Shedler Fervius.

"It's just a reflection of the hard work and development that these student-athletes have put in over the past few years," says Sumarah. "Lots of athletes come here with the goal to play professionally, and I think once again this is showing that Saint Mary's has the capability to help players reach that goal of getting a shot at the next level."
