It's certainly not the way she planned to race, but Bhreagh finished the women's 8k race at the AUS Championship in her bare feet.
The championships were hosted by the UNB Reds at Kingswood Resort in Hanwell, N.B. on Saturday, October 26th.
This was a remarkable finish for 2nd year runner, Bhreagh Burke. Burke lost one of her shoes during the first kilometre of the race. She stopped put it back on, only to have the shoe fall again, leaving her in 25th position. She then removed the 2nd shoe continued racing in her sock feet for the 2nd kilometre before she stopped again and removed her socks and ran bare foot for the remainder of the race to finish 10th and was SMU's first female to cross the finish line in 31:58.
Head Coach Kevin Heisler felt that this was without doubt was one of the gutsiest performances that he had witnessed in his years of coaching cross country.
Bhreagh along with first place finisher Andrew Peverill, will compete in the upcoming USport Championships in Kingston, Ontario on November 9th.
